Dear Clerk of the Court,

I am writing to petition the court to block the sale of the Rock Creek Sports Club to L.A. Fitness International, LLC. I only recently joined the Rock Creek Sports Club as an annual member, but my membership at this health club has already had a significant impact on my life. The group fitness classes are excellent and the instructors take great care to tailor the exercises for individuals within the classes. Additionally, I’ve found that the instructors are a quite knowledgeable in personal fitness and nutrition. I solicited advice on how to complement my gym routine with eating more healthily and I was given so many tips, I could write a book!

The environment at the Rock Creek Sports Club is not like that at the commercial, chain gyms. Rock Creek is a neighborhood gym without pretention and it is an essential part of the neighborhood. The gym provides group classes and machines for individual strength training and cardio workouts. From kickboxing to yoga, from circuit training to Pilates, this gym has it all. The classes are offered at convenient times and while they almost always fill to capacity, I’ve never seen anyone struggle to get a spot.

I fear that if L.A. Fitness were to purchase the Rock Creek Sports Club that they would close the current Rock Creek facility as there is already an L.A. Fitness about 1 mile away from Rock Creek. As close as it is, the L.A. Fitness facility is not nearly as convenient (poor parking) and the L.A. Fitness club does not have the same atmosphere or vibe as the Rock Creek Sports Club.

The members of Rock Creek go to this gym because it has a small, neighborhood feel and the staff is personable, knowledgeable, and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. Please do not allow a fitness chain such as L.A. Fitness buy the Rock Creek Sports Club and change or close our facility. The classes, services and staff at Rock Creek cannot be replaced or duplicated. Rock Creek embodies what a gym should be… a place to improve oneself, make friends, and learn how to live a better, healthier, stronger life.
